Minimum Required Coverage –
In California, the minimum car insurance each driver is mandated to carry is 15/30/5. The first number refers to $15,000 maximum liability per person injured in a collision, and the second number refers to $30,000 maximum liability for all injuries suffered in a single collision. The third number refers to $5,000 maximum liability for property damage caused a collision.

Types of Auto Insurance Coverage –
Auto Liability Coverage
ALC provides liability protection for others receiving bodily injury or property damage due to an accident involving the insured.
Auto Collision Coverage
ACC provides coverage for collision repairs when the insured is a fault., up to the cash value of the car. Collision coverage is typically the most expensive segment of Auto Insurance. The premiums may be lowered by increasing the deductible amount. Understand that the deductible will be paid before the insurance company will pay for any repairs.
CC rovides coverage for damages to your car incurring from other than a collision. This can be from vandalism, theft, fire, natural disaster, road debris, etc. There is a deductible associated with comprehensive coverage. The costs of repairs are only covered up to the value of your car at the time the damage to the car occurred.
Uninsured and Under Insured Motorist Coverage
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury (UMBI) provides coverage to your vehicle’s passengers for injuries sustain in an accident in which the other driver was at fault and uninsured. This coverage is equal to your liability coverage limits.
Under Insured Motorist (UIM) provides limited coverage for bodily injury sustained in a collision, and the other driver’s coverage limits are not sufficient to pay for the damages.
Under Insured Motorist Property Damage (UIPD) covers for damage to your car when caused by an insured driver who was at fault in the collision. This coverage only pays when the driver who is at fault cannot be identified. It may not be needed if you have collision coverage in place. Coverage has a $3500 limit.
